What's Wrong With My Body????

Woo, today is so hot!  Like I hope you realize that we can't even wear real clothes just to wash our laundry.  You just strip down and get soaked from sweat.  It's no fun at all!

Gosh you guys be grateful, because one day you'll be here and you are going to love your home!!! Oh & mom Elder Chatterly and I were talking about Costco food, and yes you will be buying a ton of bulk microwave food when I get home!  Fast food here takes at a minimum 10 minutes.  And then you are sad because you wish you had taken another 10 minutes so that you could actually feel like you've eaten! Agh!  Tell me, can you possibly imagine what if feels like to be starving all of the time, and then you are still getting fatter!  What's wrong with my body?????

Because of my chest hair, if I was in Nigeria, I would get even more girls!! :)  I did tell the scary one to buzz off.   But I got reported for "being with a girl"!!! GOODNESS!!  A load of junk!!  It's part of their culture to hold your and and just lead you places.  So first, I had my hand held by a grandma.......no problem.  Then a few minutes later, my recent convert Sister Esther (YES another Esther) then leads me somewhere.......problem.  Then one of my girls (a family with like 6 little girls, but mostly like the oldest 3 which go from 8-14) Sister Theresa grabbed me and started walking me around......no problem.  All within a half hour----3 hand holds, and because 1 was my age I got reported!  Ugh!!  Have I mentioned I get reported a lot!!

Man we have so many people coming for baptism that we don't have enough time to teach them all what they need to know.  We had to request an emergency baptism also for this week, because we have got 2 people going to school on next Monday.
Here a lot of the schools are boarding schools.  Because you don't get to choose where you go when you're older.  It's weird, but you get like 5 choices, and then according to your test scores and learning styles, the government places you!

Sorry this is short, but we haven't had water or power all day.  Our pump broke, and we are all out of food and money until next week.

Love,
Elder Legg

Being So Attractive Can be a Curse Too!

The kid who stole from us is getting off.   We got a note from him in Pigeon, so it was hard to understand, but he couldn't get us hardly any of our stuff back.

Yeah ok are you sure you want to know how we rocks that whole Easter vibe here in Ghana? Well first off you wake up and act like nothing special is happening.  If you're a missionary you go out and proselyte. If your Ghanaian you take a nap or watch some tv.   Then you just sort of do exactly everything the same, like it's a regular day.  Then you finish the day by going to sleep.

If you want to be extra crazy with it then maybe you go to church and pretend to talk about the Savior's resurrection for like 2 seconds then you just talk about whatever.  Even today is way cool because, of course, it's Easter Monday. I asked why Monday was a holiday, and I was told that since Friday is a holiday that automatically means Monday has to be also........ yeah I don't get it!

Elder Crotz and I are going to braai tonight.  It's kind of like what they do instead of bbq.  It's almost like cooking over a campfire too, so we will see how this works. We have some chicken marinating right now!
Gracie:  Sounds like you had a sweet Easter.  I'll be telling your joke here this week.

Tali: I wish we could have a good Easter egg hunt here! We can hard boil some eggs, but I if we hid an egg anywhere the mice would be on it in like 2 seconds! And we really don't want more mice in here!
Tay: Dude stake dance it up! I'm telling you bro especially right now they are so much fun! You have got to dance with a bunch a babes, but don't forget to dance with at least one wall flower each time! If you aren't aware, then a wall flower is a girl who is quite possibly unattractive, most likely doesn't have a lot of friends, and it's cute guys like you, whose job it is to make them feel good! You don't need to flirt or do any of that nonsense, but you need to be nice and ask her to dance!
Ty: I did not realize that it was time for prom!!!!!! Goodness I'm so glad you chose to go! Prom is sweet! Tell me all about how it goes! Whose group are you in and what are you doing?!  I like the way you asked!
Dad: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! goodness dad you are getting ancient! How does it feel? Keep it up daddy!
So this week! Ok, so first let's get conceited!
How long has it been since you guys heard how attractive I am?  I completely am just captivating alright! Elder Azalwa and I were standing at a corner just trying to figure out what to do when a Taxi turns past us. The driver couldn't turn away, and before we knew it, he had driven off the edge of the road and his car wouldn't work anymore!  We had to help him push his car off and a couple other guys had to help to.  Oh gosh it was so funny and we were just dying!
But you know, being so attractive can be a curse too!
My recent convert's sister is not so appetizing for the eyes, if you know what I'm sayin.  And she is completely crazy! She is all mood swingy, and freaks out a lot, and its scary, but she is also in love with me!
She fed me by hand the other night, then asked her sister and my companion to leave so we could participate in physical intimacies. uggghhhhhh I hate this girl! If we can just stay away from her house while she is home then things should be ok. She has asked me to marry her.  And she keeps trying to kiss me. And it's kind of hard to get away when you're teaching her sister, and literally their whole house consists of one room the size our kitchen! agh!
The weather is all over the place.  I almost baked to death yesterday.   Then we had a huge rainstorm that kept cutting our power because the lightening was so close to our house!  So yea, that's the weather we are working with right now.
Yep so that's the fun so far, we will see how things work this week!

Full on Movie Style----Like 2 Feet Off the Ground

Ok, so for this week it was pretty interesting!

First soccer today:  We played at the chapel today and there were 3 teams--1 American team, 1 Ghanaian team, and Uganda/South Africa/Ethiopia/another African country.  It was me, Elder Jones, and Elder Chatterley on a team versus the Ghanaian team, and the mixed African team.   And yes, I am sure you are all wondering who won??  Just so everyone knows, we dominated and my American team went undefeated!  I only scored like a thousand goals though, so that was disappointing. ;)
We said it was foreshadowing for the World Cup with USA vs Ghana coming up! Oh yeah we trash talked it up!
In the midst of playing, my shoes totally blew out, so I will see if I can fix them again, but I am going to need new shoes.   After they blew I had to keep playing, so I went barefoot.  And now it looks like I have leprosy!   My toenails are all sorts of nasty and ripped up, there's cuts all over, and lots of blisters, and even more blood.  It is sweet!  Oh, plus all that extra layers of dirt up in there!
Ok now on to the real craziness!!!!!
So as I hope you are aware, we were robbed a little while ago.   This was the 4th time in a string of robberies plaguing us over the last 2 months.   We have been pretty sure who it is since the kid was caught in our house during the 3rd incident.

The bishop and mission president got involved since the kid is a ward missionary, and basically nothing was done, so the kid just got more confident!  I mean flip he's thinking---- I'm robbing from some people that represent Jesus Christ, so no problem they can't do anything to me........ Muahhaaha (evil laughter).

Well after the 4th time, we were kind of just chill.  You know, forgive and forget, let's give him a chance to repent and get this all fixed himself.... So Friday (a few days ago) we return home and this time everyone's luggage has been broken into.  We are pretty well cleaned out of anything electronic! Cameras, memory cards, speakers, and money.

Yeah so maybe this isn't good, but we all kind of snapped!  Elder Azalwa and I know where the kid lives, so we called him to meet us at his place.  We get there and he never shows.   He's telling us he is at all these different places and a bunch of bull.  Then we go to call him again and his phone is off.   We talk to his sister and find out he had been kicked out for stealing from us and  he is now staying at the young men's president!   So we meet the young men's president at his shop, because we are worried he is in on it.  Then we get a call from the other missionaries saying he's in the apartment.   The other guys were waiting there for a call from us.  The kid said he had gone to our apartment to try to meet us there.  So they took him inside. Elder Azalwa and I rushed home in case something bad was about to go down.  We find him inside in a chair with 5 freakin ticked missionaries surrounding him. (luckily the crazy one was asleep at this time.)

Levels of anger:
Legg- calm, laughing, hungry
Azalwa- worried, cool, calm, collected
Jones- chill frustrated
Tony- chill grumps
Chatterley- controlled rage
Berisa- flippin ticked, ready to break
Crotz- mob boss calm, ready to smack down
Damane- blood thirsty rage

So yes, it was intense and dangerous there!  I sat down and started eating while ELder Azalwa tried to talk to the boy.  Damane came out and tried to beat him, but Azalwa restrained him and got him into his room. He was down right spitting mad. And his mouth was spitting some fire the kid's way.
But the kid started to talk a tiny bit.  So we knew some craziness was needed to get him to talk.   Suddenly out of no where Chatterley grabs him by the collar and slams him into our door then picks him up by the shirt.   Full on movie style----like 2 feet off the ground.  I took him to his room to get a hold on him.  While we were in the room we hear some crashing.   We thought Damane had gotten out again, but this time it was Berisa.
Ok so Damane was easy to restrain.  He's like 5'8"
Now Berisa, he's 6'2", 230ish lbs, and back home he owns a gym where he teaches people to fight.  And his whole family are champion fighters..... Yeah that one was hard, since he was full on going for the throat!

Gosh this kid  is stupid.   So  during these crazy outbursts he admits to having done it, and then later he denies it.   SO Elders Azalwa, Jones, Tony, and I went out with the boy to go get the stuff.
He took us to the young men's president's house, and OOPS, the stuff wasn't there.  Then he took us to some little kid's house, and tried to blame him, but he was at school during all the happenings. We went on a wild goose chase for many hours.   At like 9pm, he said he would have the stuff to us by 8 the next morning, so we let him go.

Next day and nothing.  He tried to deny everything, and we were just getting more ticked.  The Assistants to the President came to try to help, and they got sick of the kid really fast too.   They ended up having to take ELders Damane and Crotz away for the weekend for the safety of the kid.
We met with the boy and Bishop and his counselor on Sunday and everyone knows he did it!!!  Gosh we have plenty evidence.   The counselor wanted to take the kid outside and beat the truth out of him.  But we finally decided that if he doesn't get us our stuff back, he should just go to jail. And that is the point we are at now.

So now some more frustrating details:

1.  Kid doesn't work, and his family is way poor.   Somehow he has a super nice phone and new clothes. Also he is taking driving lessons, which are way expensive here.
2.  He has had access to the keys in the past, so he could get a copy easy, and we are missing some of them.
3.  Also he has the knowledge to be able to get past our padlocks.   So do I now!  Apparently that is like common knowledge here!!!
4.  In the Bishop's office he was asked, "The missionaries say you broke into their home and you have taken their stuff.  Is this true?"  He responded with, "I know they are not lying." And then,  "Where is the stuff?"  "It's not with me."  Agh!!  He just wants us to kill him!

Reason the young men's president is under suspicion:
1. took thief into his home
2. lied to us about the times when he saw the boy on Friday
3. he tried to threaten us for coming to his house and trashing his place (which we definitely didn't do at all!)
4. he and the kid talk in secret and then split when they see us
5 he sells all the gosh dang stuff that is being stolen! cameras, mem cards, all of those things!

Agh!!  But the kid's ultimatum now is to either get us our stuff, or you are going to jail!
Yeah so we have been having a right nice time here!
Yeah I'm not sure what else but that's a nice story for you :)

Green Eggs, But No Ham, Trav I Am

I love Elder Azalwa!  I can see specific things that I am gaining from my companions.
ELder Kanu gave me struggle, so that I could learn that Unity in a companionship is hard, but important!   Elder Allen taught me the importance of numbers, and how to work timely instead of just harder.
Elder Azalwa is giving me some confidence and helping me realize that I am making a difference!
When Elder Bednar came here a while ago, (in Jan.) he taught us how the Lord works 1 by 1.  How you don't need to look for plenty, when you need only to find the one that will make a difference.

I didn't even know that it was time for General Conference! It's almost like nothing here!  It's so frustrating!

Ok, so for this week I don't really know what to say.
Let's start this off with the nasty whatever thing in my armpit!  Psh, I don't know what it is. But there are some red bumps.  And I've had a little bit of green pus oozage, and it hurts sooo bad!  As I'm sure you can assume, when I found the nastiness I started overdosing on all kinds of anything that might make it better! I keep rubbing a bunch of Neosporin and other stuffs in there! Yeah, so I think it has started to go away, but we will see what the coming weeks hold!

Staying on the note of green stuff, I think there is something wrong with my eggs!  It kind of looks like we dropped some green dish soap in there.  Normally you have your egg yolks, and your egg whites.  Me, I have my egg yolks and my egg greens!  Elder Chatterly borrowed a few eggs, and just got sick looking at them!   So far,  at least, I haven't gotten sick.  They taste fine, they just smell bad. hehe
(Hasn't gotten sick???  You would think he might make the connection to the green stuff in his pit???)

We had a nice rainstorm again, and that was a party!  I was out with Elder Berisa and we had a bunch of fun just teaching a ton of people!  We got 2 of our investigators ready for baptism. Which was a blessing, because if we hadn't taught them everything when we did, we would be still teaching them stuff. Then we wouldn't have been able to find out some of their concerns in time, and their baptisms could have been postponed. They would not have liked that!
Yes, we are having 2 more baptisms this week.  I am so excited!  1 of the people has been really freaking frustrating to teach, because she is suuuuuuper moody to us and I hate it!  But she has been wanting to be baptized for a while, so now that we stuck through it, now she is way nicer!

ELder Crotz and I went on exchanges this week.  We got on our bikes and we just rode! 30 minutes later we find ourselves way out in a place that almost looks livable!  It's called Millennium Estates, and it almost looks like a regular subdivision!   Well minus the cleanliness........ and the grass........ and the people..........and yeah.......... well a lot was still different, but hey those houses were flippen nicer than anywhere I will live here!

My eyes are ok but my head hurts, and oh my blue glasses broke.  It's kind of ELder Crotz's fault, but not really.  They were on my bed because I was washing my face.  He sat on my bed, and his hand landed on it. Yeah not putting it on the bed sounds simple enough, but you have got to remember I don't actually have anything else that I can put it on... wow that's sad.  But the screw that holds the lens in had rusted and it snapped in half. So I have just been wearing the Converse ones for a few days.  I don't know how to send them to you. I may end up trying to just go without.

Hopefully we will get to go to the beach next Monday! It is a different beach, for a really pristine lake.  Not like the nasty lake I have in my area with poop & stuff in it.  We are going to steal (borrow) a cooler that they have stashed in the church, then we will get ourselves some drinks and some snacks and just go sit there and have a freak ton of fun!

Wow this sounds boring, but I guess there isn't a lot of stuff to say! We will just keep going because here it isn't going to stop! wwoooooooo

The Good, The Bad, & the.....Well he was already Ugly 2 Weeks Ago!

Ok, so this week we got some good news and some bad news.

Ok.......... good news first, because that one is more important!

We helped 3 people get baptized this week!  Woop Woop! Miss Ebbie was one of the people that I was sent here to work with.  She had a baptism date all set and her husband is already a member.  We showed up and she pulled out her little list of concerns.  Meanwhile Elder Azalwa reaches for his scriptures and I just, well I didn't do anything.  I just talked to her.  I asked her a few questions about what was wrong and what I could do to help her, and when we left she said she was ready to be baptized.   Elder Azalwa was CONMAZED (confused/amazed). I just thought that she was a golden investigator, but Elder Azalwa  told me that she had a lot of concerns, and that she had been really resistant.  He just felt like he was kicking against the bricks. He had shown her all the scriptures, done all the lessons, and she just was not feeling it.  So Sweet! Baptized, and confirmed, and now she is super happy!!

The other 2 were just the guys who are freaking awesome.  We love all of them.  Our district freaking rocked this month! There are only 2 companionships and we helped a total of 13 people to enter into baptism this month.  Our ward received 9 new members into it yesterday.  I don't know what is going on, but missionary work is sweet!

Ok, so now for the bad news.  Let's start with saying mom I'm sorry.....

Ok so then we got robbed this week.  We don't know how.  This apartment was broken into last month before my transfer.  But the lock was changed, and we have been really careful.  It honestly wasn't our fault.  We believe that it was a ward missionary or the landlord/someone who works for him.  We have a back door, but only the landlord has keys to that one.  3 out of 4 locks were undone when we realized what had happened.  The robber took my camera and my money.  I don't know how he got the perfect timing, because I always carry that stuff with me for this reason.  But it rained the day before, so my stuff was wet and I had left it to dry.  I only have my emergency money, which I hid in a pill jar, and some that I had in my name tag.

President says he will get us some money though, but I don't know what to say about my camera. We are praying and fasting.  I'm not too worried about the money and stuff because I'll be fine, but mom I'm so sorry.  Letting you know this happened is the hardest part.  The person who stole the stuff knew us because he knew to get into my luggage and where I stashed the key.  He went through my wallet too, but that was empty.  He got my companion's camera and money also.  I just don't know what to do, I'm sorry.

Buying things here is a lot like we heard it would be like in Jamaica when we went.  That's kind of how it is here, if you don't know what you are doing.  I like to entertain the really stupid ones, and let them know they suck at selling. :) Can you believe some bum tried to sell me an Iphone for 1000ghc.?? Psh, yeah right!!

This is my week,
Elder Legg
