When You Cease to Dream, You Cease to Live! I Dream Every Flippin Night!

Of course you can celebrate me even though I'm not there!  That will be awesome!  And YES I got the packages Tuesday and they are flippin awesome!!  Mom I love you so much!! I still don't really understand when you got so creative! But it is amazing! I open one each morning and I go out totally inspired and super happy!

We had zone training in Accra.  We had meetings forever.  The meeting was not very fun, but I got out of some of it because one of the office elders was having to run a ton of errands and he couldn't find his companion. So i just followed him everywhere! It was way nicer! Since we left Monday we stayed the night at the Hill's house in the air conditioning! I know it sounds awesome, and for all those people that have been out for only a little while, it was way awesome.  For all us oldies here on the mish, it was miserable because we froze in the AC and got colds and we were unable to sleep!   And the food supply was somewhat limited.  Best part was we all got to watch Passage to Zarahemla, we were trying to get  Forever Strong, but we couldn't quite convince him.

I don't know where the scar on Sister Akos's chin came from.  There are 3 options, it could be a tribal scar (a lot of tribes here do that and most of them look stupid, but a few of them are really cool) I have never seen another one like it though so I doubt it.  It could be from someone having beaten her very seriously when she was younger (kids that are stubborn get beaten pretty badly here, it's way nice!), or she could have just been in an accident, which is pretty much the most likely option.  But I don't know.

I had a pretty awesome week! There were a ton of things that got in the way of proselyting, so that was kind of sad.  But we still did our best, and there was a lot of improvement on my part!

My companion and I cleaned the baptismal font this week. When you think of what the font represents, and what you do there, it should be pretty clean and a pretty pretty place.  The last few baptisms we have had you can't tell when the person is completely submerged because you cannot see any part of their body!  It is all under the thick brown water ewww. Yeah I had to baptize in that, and I almost vomited when I saw it. So we spent 2 hours on our hands and knees with 2 scrub brushes and 2 liters of bleach scrubbing until our knuckles began to bleed.  That may seem like just a saying or a joke to all of you, but we scrubbed until blisters rose, then we kept scrubbing till they broke and bled.  Now we just have some nice little sores on our knuckles!  Pretty sweet place to have an open wound when trying to fight against ebola and cholera right :)  Ebola really is nothing to me, and it doesn't affect me like at all. There is pretty much nothing to worry about, yet.  We believe it will be pretty well taken care of in about 6 months-ish, but who knows.

We had the best open venue ever!  We were going to have it starting at 5, so of course, at 4 a huge downpour started and no one could leave where they were.  Luckily my companion and I were taking lunch, so we got stuck in a tiny little tin shack.  Of course, since we are missionaries the show must go on! We sang as loud as we could and still no one could hear us over the rain, but it was fun.  By 5:30-6ish we all made it to a street corner near the market and we just sang as loud as our lungs could possible make it until about 730-8.  When you got tired you were supposed to go and try to contact people while the others sang.  Every time I tried to go contact people someone told me to stay and they went and contacted them! So I sang the whole time. We sang about a bagillion hymns.  And you can really only sing so many hymns for so long until you are about ready to explode!  So we serenaded people with other songs such as, All Star by Smash Mouth (talks about individual worth in the sight of God) Baby by Justin Bieber (of course our dependence on the Savior) As Long as You Love Me by Justin Bieber (God's love for us) and a couple other sweet ones in which we just went crazy! We also threw out a bunch of Christmas hymns because those really get the people going!

I got to go on an exchange With Elder Moyer. He is from Pennsylvania. He is super cool. He is pretty quite and reserved, but he is a sweet guy! It was tons of fun, even though I kind of felt like I was waaayyy obnoxious compared to him! One girl yelled at us that night complaining that we hadn't come to see her. She was acting super not serious. I thought Elder Moyer had taught her before because of how she was acting and I was sure he had stopped teaching her because she wasn't serious at all!  So we sat down and I began to absolutely finish her and I was kind of condemning because she had really made me angry! I let her know that we were sent by God and if we didn't find the people that He had sent us to find then their blood would be upon our heads and that if she was wasting our time and because of her we didn't meet with someone who needed us then their blood would be upon her head........ yeah it got pretty heavy. About half way through she has to serve somebody (she was a seller at a junction) and while she is serving them Elder Moyer leans over and whispers, "we've never taught this girl, we just met her yesterday, and we had an appointment with her that we missed." Oh man I felt soooo dumb! But I honestly think what I did helped her, because she got way more serious and was actually willing to listen instead of just play around :)

Saturday I had another fun oops moment! 8 of us missionaries got invited to a baby blessing or baby shower where we were to preform a special musical number. We get there on time and, of course, they start more than an hour late.  My companion & I are looking all over for the baby, pointing out all the cute looking new babies trying to figure out which one we are there for.  When the ceremony actually starts a fancy dressed couple walks forward to the front and sits in 2 chairs in front of everyone.  That got us really confused. First of all who are these two people??  And what are they doing??  And where is the baby?? When finally the branch president gets up and starts reading some vows I turn to my companion and ask him,"When did we get invited to a wedding?!"
Yeah that was weird, plus the people getting married were in a different branch so we didn't know them at all, and we were the only ones that were there, but hey wedding means free food!

Also my companion and I are complete morons!  I mean who signs up for a special musical number in sacrament meeting on Wednesday, then picks what song to sing on Saturday, then practices it on Sunday!? Flip I don't know what we were thinking, but we were busy and we wanted to do something nice for the branch.   Good news is that it turned out really well.  Bad news is that the congregation sang the exact same song about 10 minutes before!  We sang "There is a Green Hill Faraway" it was beautiful and everyone loved it! I felt so dumb when we found out that we would all sing the same one! I wanted to change it but my companion said we should stay with the same one! We stuck with it and super rocked it!

What are they doing??  I thought this is supposed to be some super stud dream team and then they are just going to flop against Kuna and Calwdwell?!! Come one you guys! I am over here kicking the buttockses of plenty Ghanaians whose only dream is to be a professional baller, and you cant even take Caldwell?! Y'all need to get your heads in the game! (Tyson's Varsity Soccer Team)

Tay: Goodness your life is all about them ladies now huh! anyone say puberty!!! goodness just try not to make too many cry because tears only lead to you having to make them feel better. So my advice is you be the one who cries and then they will have to make it better!

Grace: Flip you're wayyy to young for boys trying to give you their numbers!  Did he have an Adam's apple??  Because that would make it ok right? (Gracie is crazy for Adam's Apples--loves them!) But still any boy who is using drama class as his way to get to girls is a bum and you don't need to entertain any bums ok!

Tali:  Umm yes girl I went to Wagons Ho, but I don't really remember it that much! I know we did some butter making and something with making a wagon ho or something like that :P glad you're having fun still!

Ty: Ok so first what is with you and bekah being like best friends now! I hear about her all the time and I never hear anything about whats her face or whoever your many girlfriends are now! Why don't you fit in to Mads? Who is even in there? Dude while I am here hearing that I am turning 20 sounds normal and just whatever, but when you and Tay say it, it is so weird!  Ugh when I get back you will be 18, man that is just down right crazy! That is how old I was when I left! I feel like that still ! I don't feel like I am a man, or ready to go to college, or look for a wife, or any of those adult things.  But I am pretty confident it'll be easy :) Love you bro.

Yep same old same old fun stuff!  Hope y'all have a sweet week.  You can try to compete with me, but your week is not going to be as cool as mine! The next time that you hear from me I will be a 20 year old MAN and I will have overcome the hump that is my 1 year mark on mission and be half way finished with my mission! Because of my incredible mother, we will be having a ridiculous party like y'all wouldn't believe! I am soooooooooooooooooooo excited!

When you cease to dream, you cease to live! I dream every flippin night, so no problem there!  Just think though how many of you die when you think you are just sleeping? :)

The people who can see that which is invisible, are the only people who can do that which is impossible. Some will say that means having vision, some will say that means having visions, and some will say that's just darn crazy! As for me I think I am just darn crazy, but hey it's kind of nice to see something others can only dream of :)

Covered in Drool & Snot ..... I Looked Like a Total Idiot!

Umm yeah I think the water is ok.... maybe... we can get wipes here so
you don't need to send them! And I really don't want to deal with bucket
showers, because I hate them! But I usually wash my face with filtered
water. And Elder Moyer has been here for like 7 months and he is doing
fine! But thanks I will try to be careful!

Umm this week what did I do?
I think I mentioned going to the gym last week. This week we will go
again, but we worked so hard last week that I am still sore! We did
some chest and abs stuff and now I am dyin!

We got some pizza Saturday for ELder Kirkland's birthday... It wasn't spectac, but it was ok.  It was really fun because they had a bunch of signs of all of the different options.   And it was nice, but when we got them, we had all ordered something different, and they ended up all looking and tasting pretty much the same!

I got all sorts of wet this week and that was no fun! I had exchanges
on Friday with Elder Davuke. We were going to visit Sister Stella. When
we go to Sister Stella's house we have to be very careful because her
land lady hates us and told her never to let us come again. First
person we see when we get there is the land lady. So we go over to help
her fetch water. As soon as we start talking to her it begins to rain.
The land lady tells us to come inside, but problem Sister Stella has traveled. We are now stuck in this house with this old lady who keeps
giving me the stink eye. She gives us chairs on the porch because she
doesn't want to stay inside her house! Of course it isn't just a squirt
of rain, but it is, of course, a 4 hour torrent of flooding craziness! So
we sit there unable to talk because the rain is too loud. So I lean
forward and fall asleep on myself. Of course I wake up when the rain
lessens and I am covered in drool and snot and I look like a total
idiot! Ugh I guess I am really just not a good impression maker! I
don't think that lady was too pleased with me, and I just got up and
walked away out into the falling mist that was still going.

Of course that couldn't be the end of my humiliation! We keep
walking and in order to get to where we need to go, we have to cross a raging river that now covers the road. There are a few tiny patches where if you
step and jump just right you can get through safely. Elder Davuke
starts going the normal path but gets stuck halfway and cannot jump to
the other side. So I try to take a way around. I go, and my first step,
I put pressure causing the ground to give way and I fall into the
river getting my shoes and trousers soaked! Ugh. I just walked over to
Elder Davuke, picked him up, and carried him across the river. Yes,
in case you got the cross reference.........I was exactly like a pioneer!

We have met so many cool people both as investigators and as less
active members. 15 people promised they would come to church, and of
course, how many do you think did???! Ummm 1! Of course, woop woop Flippin
Seth is the bomb! He is way one of my favorite investigators and he is
only 14. He can hardly understand anything I say, so his uncle, who is
a member, usually has to translate. But Seth is going to be an example
for his whole house! Starting with us coming to see him, we now teach 9
people in that house! It is way cool!

One investigator Sister Akos looks super cool, so it can be hard to
teach her. She has a crescent moon scar starting under her lips, going
under her chin, and it has lines crossing it from the stitches, and it
looks way cool. Also she sports an afro that is black, brown, red, and
purple haha I love it! I think she understands our message, and I hope
she will follow our teachings!

We have a member that goes with us named Daniel. He is 15 or 16, so
some missionary tried to criticize us for him not being the correct
fellow shipper for the people we were taking him too. I got pretty mad
at that missionary. I let him know that Daniel is a good translator,
that Daniel's mom and Daniel knew all the people we are taking
him to before, and Daniel is a good enough teacher that he could teach the
entire lesson without me saying anything, which is better than the
criticizing missionary can do.

I think that's what is up for today! This afternoon we will
travel down to Accra for a meeting tomorrow and I think we will be
staying in the Hills house which will be fun. Maybe I don't know
yet. I just hope the 8 hour meeting wont be as boring as it sounds
like! ;)

Yeah Julie emailed me about here brother. It's way sad! Yeah I got
a package from here like 3 weeks ago. I think I will get your
packages tomorrow! So good news is that. I got a small one (I sent the small one 2+ weeks after his birthday packages) from you and I will hopefully get the big and medium ones soon.

So the guys are doing really good at soccer, that's awesome! I enjoy hearing that! I wish I could watch them. But I will get to see Tay when I get back
and I was able to play with Tyson!

Ty: So are you pretty much the number one guy in FX aren't you! That's
so sweet dude do you get to do all of the cool stuffs? At mutual who
was better at the other genders stuff? boys or girls? Man so soccer is
sweet then? You're kinda dominating on the D aren't you! That's so sweet
you got to be the mascot! you were obviously the best! The other one
was Kevin? yeah he's definitely not as cool!

Tay: OH no why are you getting beaten by a gorilla (at a soccer game). You should have destroyed that bofloat! Flip he is lucky I wasn't on that field because I would've been bringing the woopin on the both of them! You would enjoy just chillin with the ladies! You still have a year and a half before
you can go on dates or kiss anyone so I don't know why you are so
excited for it! :P

Tali: I want to see Paiton! why am I never invited to her house?! Not
fair! And I have never done the Color Run! That's way cool!

Gracie: Hey if you need a big box for Halloween I have a huge one on my front porch!  It's from our refrigerator! It's big enough for me to be a head on a
table! (that's what she wants to be for Halloween) It's good you aren't crying at school anymore! Is it getting better or is it still horrible no good very bad? mom and dad should totally be shrek and fiona! They kind of do celebrate here, but they mostly don't celebrate it. They don't celebrate a lot of holidays here because of their dumb churches! It's stupid. Holidays are for the country and not for the church so they just need to stop being dumb! I think I might dress up so that I can show people what's up! They also can't do Trick
or Treating here because no one likes sugar, therefore no candy!

Taught My Brothers Well, Animal Game, & Bats/Witches/Opium

I have not gotten the birthday packages yet but I have a possibility of getting them on Wednesday because there are transfers, but my companion and I are staying here for awhile.  I will send someone look for it Wednesday, because yeah it's super important and I wanty it!

Yeah Ebola spreads because people don't believe it is real and they just go about their lives. I won't get it so don't worry!

I went to Oda to visit, but I doubt I will serve there again. Oda was really nice, but I did not like that companion at all.  He is my worst companion so far, honestly, which is sad. But this one is super cool!  I am having a ton of fun!  My companion and I will be trying to take some pictures this week so we shall see, but I'm not sure!
We have water all the time, even when there is light off!  The biggest problem is that our toilet is outside and it takes forever to get there since it has a padlock on the door!

Why do you have the wrap yourself around a desk kid? I never had problems with that did I?

Yeah see I have taught my brothers well.  They know how to treat their mom with love and affection, so that she knows how much they care.  And when women are looking at us they will all know how much we love you mom!! (Trav started a tradition of hugging--kissing--smothering me with his sweat after a soccer game. Now Tyson has amped it up by jumping on me, knocking me to the ground, then hugging--kissing--smothering me. I told Trav he jumped a fence & climbed into the bleachers to do it last game. Taylor always is the 1st one over to the parents and picks me up and gives me a sweaty kiss.)  I'm glad soccer is doing so well! Who are the soccer captains?

Ty:   Has Meridian always been in our league, or are they 5A?  And why did you have to kick the crap out of them??  That's awesome dude!  Who is your keeper? And you are obviously dominating on defense!

Tay: So you are enjoying FX? I told y'all you needed to try out for that stuff, even if you dont like it at first,  you will love it!  Keep it up with soccer!... Tay what position do you even play now? Hope you is having tons of fun with Hunter!

Gracie:  Sorry you don't like middle school, but you will have to deal with it.  It'll get better.  You just gotta stop the crying, put on your big boy pants(or big girl pants), and love it!  I haven't emailed because I am in Africa and we have LIGHT OFF all the gosh dang time!  I have not gotten the packages!  I got one cool one from Theresa, but that is all. That was one with socks and shorts!

Tali: My week was super cool!  We found some way sweet people to teach.  Some members fed us, and we have a ton of members that like to help us teach, which is so nice!   So are you going to the games with mom?   That must be fun!  Are you doing any sports or are you just doing voice stuff?

Ok so somethings that have been done by me, my companion, and the Lord this week.... hmmm
So last week, Monday we traveled to Oda for a zone activity.  We played basketball, volleyball, and soccer.  It was awesome. In soccer we played a long game on a big full field and I scored about a million goals. It was almost getting boring, because I was just doing too good. I didn't even know what to do with my self.  In volleyball I wasn't great, but none of us were. Our only Islander goes home in 3 weeks, so he is pretty out of shape.  And in basketball we are having a ton of sweet games and we played a game where our tallest player was 5'9" and their shortest player  was 6' and of course we won!  Hecks yes! Man it was nice!
Yesterday we got fed fufu and I just got so sick because there were 2 balls, and both were the size of my head, so it was super hard to finish.  But my companion and I did well and we had fun!

I had horrible runny tummy on... Saturday? Goodness in the morning it was horrible.  Every 15 minutes I would have to go to the toilet and I would be there for 30 minutes. I was pooping out basically strait water.

So my companion and I have been thinking of us maybe either buying a goat or just some chickens for us to eat this month :)  That'd be kinda sweet, but it got really complicated, so I don't know if it will happen.

Mom, so I have a question for the water that you could check out for me.  When the water comes out of our faucet without going through our filter then it comes out super milky white, sometimes muddy and I have had a couple of branches come out of there.  So is that a good idea for me to keep bathing in it? I don't really know if it's sanitary. And I don't usually feel good when I get in it.  But it's not like there is any other type of water that I can get, so oh well, all's for the best! I got running water so I don't feel too bad.

We have been putting some of our family party games into practice. We were playing the Animal Game where you walk around blindfolded with a pillow.  Yeah you know what I'm talking about! We did it for a family home evening and it was way fun. One of the girls who always helps us teach was getting angry because it took her lots of  tries before she got the right person!

So we got lost the other day, while we were trying to kill a little time between our tons of appointments.   We found ourselves walking next to a small witch forest with a bunch of bats. And I was scared, so we kept walking toward the scary river, that is covered in ivy and trees.  Upon our approach we heard some weird voices.  We had 2 options, that were really about the same thing. Either we were coming upon a scary cult church that worships juju and had a bunch of black magic that we would have to fight, or we were about to discover a witches nest in which case they too would have a ton of black magic, and we would have to fight them off.  So fearlessly, we continue our search.  We discover a couple of grass huts who were occupied by... duh duh duh yep you guessed it....... a bunch of druggies. There was just a big group of guys blazin up on some opium and marijuana.  Of course, us being super awesome missionaries, instead of just walking away we head into the lions den and contact them, invite them to church, and teach them a short lesson. Needless to say none of them came to church, and lucky for the black magicians and mommy wata that lives there they didn't have to be destroyed by our priesthood!

Ok sweet thanks mom you're the best. I gotta to go home and get some food I am starving!
I'll do my best Love you !!!!!!
Love you guys

I Was Scoring Goals All Over the Place!

Ok sorry I couldn't email last week.  We had a zone activity in Oda which took all day.  Then we had light off (no power) when we got home, so that was horrible.   But the activity was supper sweet so don't worry about that!!!  We played a big game of football and I killed it! Again!! It was sweet, I was scoring goals all over the place!

SO emergency transfer was for a whole lot of things. The guy that traded me needed to help something in Oda. And I was needed here to be a junior companion to Elder Fairwell, because he was being prepared to become the district leader.   Also the guy who I replaced hadn't really done any work here, so we are coming to kill it.

Here we have water, but our water filter is having problems.  It is supposed to fill my bottle in 20 seconds, but last night it took over 15 minutes to fill.   It was not nice.

My companion now Elder Fairwell, is from Houston Texas, but he had served in Liberia for about 15 months so he is sweet!  We are working hard together, and we have tons of members that come with us, and they enjoy us plenty!

Ooooooo Bill the second councilor! And who is going to be the bishop?!  Is dad staying in his spot? What about all the rest of the ward what's going on with them?  Why are they thinking about calling him Weston? (Brittany & Ty Weber) That is not cool at all!  Give him a cool name like Lord Gyemfie!

Tyson: Dude soccer seems like it is going awesome and your school seems like it's doing awesome! Who are the captains for soccer this year? It's sweet that you guys are killin it! Dude keep rockin the school and being a total boss!
Tay: Yeah dude FX is way hard because Mr Child is crazy! It's awesome!  Today I just went to the Gym and I am freaking dying! There is a gym near the market and the guy who owns it lets the missionaries come for free. I almost died!  Yeah there are tons of girls, now you just get to choose which ones you want!
Tali:  So do you like the new bishopric, or is it not nice?  It sounds like you are going to have a sweet 4th grade year! Hope all is well and you are being nice to the other kids!
Grace: Sheesh you Are having all sorts of troubles!  You just need to chill sister sassy pants :) Are you sure you know what flirty is? Im pretty flirty!  Maybe you should ask me for advice. (it was a drama class activity she told him about)  Don't worry, middle school stinks at first.  But it will be ok you'll get over it, and you'll find all of the fun parts soon enough!
